Auburn Gresham and Chicago Cares Hosts MLK Community Serv-a-thon
See bigger map
Chicago Cares is very excited to continue the partnership with Cook Elementary School, in the Auburn Gresham community. Last year, their volunteer projects included painting, repairing and updating the school building. Volunteers were also able to add artwork to the primary wings and paint games on the playground blacktop!
Kicking off 2017, as part of the Martin Luther King Holiday, day of service, volunteers from Uptake will work with us to continue to make Cook Elementary a wonderful place to learn, by participating in several additional facility improvement projects around Cook Elementary. Volunteers will paint three classrooms, build three new benches for reading nooks an organize Cooks' school library, and storage rooms. Uptake volunteers will also have a change to make eight college themed murals to line the junior high hallway.
Leaving an inspiring reminder of this day of service, Uptake volunteers will be creating a Martin Luther King Jr. domino mosaic. Lastly, volunteers will have the unique experience of serving seniors and veterans from the Auburn Gresham Community a meal and facilitating a Martin Luther King Jr. discussion and providing them with fleece blankets and two canvas murals for their facility.
If you are a senior or a veteran in the greater Auburn Gresham community, please consider joining us at this community day of service event, commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Call our Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation office, at 773-483-3696 to let us know you are coming. It will help us finalize plans for a great day of service!
