The Black Star Project's Parent Revolution WVON Radio Show May 6th, Focus on the Wealth Divide

The Black Star Project's
Parent Revolution Show

Bill Emmons and Ray Boshara
of the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank
Discussing
"Education is not the great equalizer it once was-if it ever was.  College does not close racial wealth gap. It widens it!"
-----------------------------------------
"Successive generations of Hispanics and Blacks are falling further behind their White and Asian counterparts in obtaining four-year college degrees. Additionally, the payoffs for increasing levels of education obtained by Hispanics and Blacks generally are lower than those for Whites and Asians. As a consequence of these quantity and quality gaps, higher education unintentionally has become an engine for widening disparities rather than for accelerating the convergence of economic and financial opportunities across races and ethnicities."

The  the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) and the Corporation For Economic Development (CFED) say that if current economic trends continue, the average Black household will need 228 years to accumulate as much wealth as their White counterparts hold today. It would take the average Latino family 84 years.
Median Family Net Worth in 2013
  Four-Year College Graduates Non-College Graduates
All Families $273,586 $43,625
White $359,928 $80,692
Asian $250,637 $25,632
Hispanic $49,606 $12,160
Black $32,780 $9,006
