       17th Ward Alderman Honors Veterans During South Side Memorial Day Parade

Remembering Our Nation’s Fallen Heroes

(Chicago, IL) May 23, 18— 17th Ward Alderman David Moore hosts the South Side Memorial Day Parade on May 28, 18.  This year the parade returns for its second year to pay homage to Community Veterans who often time feel forgotten and War Time heroes, attendees are in for a treat as the parade includes dignitaries, notables and more.

The parade and celebration kick-off from the beautiful St. Leo Veteran’s Home in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood (7750 S. Emerald Ave Chicago, IL).

This year’s keynote speaker is Useni Eugene Perkins, Poet, Playwright and Author of “Hey Black Child”.Headliners include the legendary Buffalo Soldiers and The Tuskegee Airmen of the Dodo Chapter. The parade’s Grand Marshals and honorees include Allan Streeter, Korean War Hero and former 17thWard Alderman, Estelle Long, WWII Veteran and Luis Watson, WWII Veteran of the 2664 Civilian Conservation Corps. Chicago’s own Military Academy JROTC will be leading as color guard; the parade precession will include Final Phaze Dance Team, Oglesby School Performing Arts and Tea With A Queen Girl Scouts Troop # 25674. 

 “This event is aimed at showing appreciation to our veterans for their courage, service and most of all sacrifices made to defend our country. This parade is the opportunity to shed light on our neighborhood heroes in which our youth can look up to and connect with heroes who serve and protect our country. The parade also sheds light and positivity on the amazing memorial day programs happening throughout Chicago,” says Alderman David Moore.

Immediately preceding the parade will be a wreath ceremony at the Veteran Garden led by Alderman Moore and Useni Eugen Perkins to salute the slain veterans.
