Community Violence Prevention Program Youth Employment Program Coordinator Job Description
Employment Term: 4/14/14 - 8/31/14 (20 hours per week, 20 weeks)
Wage: $12.50/hour
Reports To: YEP Manager
I. Overview of Job Function
The YEP Coordinator is the primary point of contact for all Mentors and youth and is responsible for making sure that mentoring, youth employment, and youth outreach activities run smoothly. The YEP Coordinator is also the secondary point of contact for employers for recruitment and job placement
II. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The YEP Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all of the administrative activities for the Youth Employment Program. The YEP Coordinator is the primary point of contact for employers, Mentors and youth. Responsibilities include , but are not limited to: working with the YEP Manager on matters related to youth employment and job placement; supervising Mentors; working with youth; and on-site monitoring of all youth community service activities. The YEP Coordinator will also monitor the quality of Mentor/mentee relationships.
The YEP Coordinator will:
- Assist YEP Manager in the recruitment, screening, and hiring of youth
- Work with YEP Manager to recruit local employers to offer subsidized jobs for youth
- Match youth with employment opportunities
- Facilitate job placement for youth
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employers
- Serve as the liaison between Mentors, youth, and employers
- Supervise Mentors
- Match Mentors and mentees
- Coordinate community outreach events
- Monitor and approve timesheets for Mentor and youth payroll
- Monitor conduct of all Mentors and youth
- Attend planning meetings as requested
- Facilitate youth orientations and trainings, as needed
- Attend mentoring training sessions
- Serve as a substitute Mentor, as require
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE)
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Education and training background preferred
- Experience working with youth, in youth development, job training or educational settings preferred
- Supervision and management experience preferred
- Pass a criminal background and child abuse check
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word
- Experience with public speaking
