Medicaid Matters
Illinois is in the midst of a major Medicaid overhaul. From efforts underway to enroll 50% of Medicaid recipients into coordinated care to Medicaid expansion enrollment under the ACA, Illinois is showing dedication to a culture of coverage and continuous improvement of the healthcare environment.??
The recent good news for Medicaid: Adult dental under Medicaid is restored! Take care of those chompers.
After the hard work and dedication of advocates across the state of Illinois, dental services will be available to Medicaid members. In 2012 as part of the SMART Act, Medicaid dental services in Illinois were limited to only emergencies. That meant that many had to struggle to find dentists willing to do work for free, or had to wait until dental problems escalated to the point of emergency, when care is most costly in order to access needed care.
This restoration is a big step in showing prevention services are a priority in Illinois. Have the Medicaid changes affected you and groups you work with? Let us know about your experience. Email us at info@illinoishealthmatters.org.
