The survey is part of Chicago Neighborhoods 2014 , a project of LISC Chicago and The Chicago Community Trust to collect information about all communities across the city. The public document that will come from the work will be a central reference for future investment and planning by the city, communities and other stakeholders.

LISC’s research into assets began with a series of 15 focus groups with neighborhood organizations and leaders across the city. The survey asks the same questions to a general audience.

The asset research will be combined with a review of past plans by theMetropolitan Planning Council and data by DePaul University's Institute for Housing Studies.
