The South Shore Community “Pops Down” During for The Closing Celebration of The “South Shore Pop Up Diva’s Holiday Boutique”
CHICAGO (December 19th 2014) – After four successful weeks of the “South Shore Pop Up Diva’s Holiday Boutique” the community will celebrate the finale on December 21st.
Residents and businesses of the South Shore community felt the positive economic boost, community engagement and surge of synergy behind the “South Shore Pop Up Diva’s Holiday Boutique”. The Pop Up embodies the seven principles of Kwanza: unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith.
Sunday December 21st from 1pm-4pm, the Teen's Corner will offer special art projects, which include creating tie-dye clothing, use of silkscreens and custom painted designs on sneakers (bring your own) for a modest donation. The concluding celebration will began at 3pm featuring the Super Scentual Sunday including Chefs Sara's Cafe, Give Me Some Sugah Bakery, The Scentuary and sweets by Treats By Carrie.
The masterminds behind the success of this initiative included Veronica Kyle, Sharon Lewis- Harris, Mary Steenson and Natalie Perkins. Through the “Walk -Shop- Dine” marketing campaign they encouraged residents to identify and spend as much of their money as possible with local black and progressive businesses in South Shore.
The “Divas” brought out to over 15 progressive local businesses and artists together to show the quality, creative and successful small progressive businesses that are present in South Shore.
The Planning Coalition’s Planning, South Shore Chamber Inc.,SSA 49 and BUFI boosted community engagement, sparked economic excitement which started with the year long campaign, “Walk -Shop- Dine”.
