City Colleges of Chicago Women’s Basketball Player Earns Associate Degree; Signs Letter of Intent

Torrionna Evans, a member of the Richard J. Daley College women’s basketball team the last two seasons, will continue her academic and athletic careers at Governors State University after she signed a letter of intent with the NAIA school.
A graduate of Chicago International Charter School Ralph Ellison, Evans received an Associate in Applied Science from Daley in May and will major in computer science at Governors State.
Evans played in all 24 of Daley’s games in 2014-15 and was inserted into the starting lineup 21 times. She averaged 6.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.7 assists per contest for the Bulldogs and reached double figures in scoring in five outings and in rebounding on three occasions.
Evans, a guard, scored 15 points against the College of Lake County on January 6th to equal her career high and collected a personal-best 13 rebounds in Daley’s 73-48 victory over Morton College on November 11th. She published a double-double in the Bulldogs’ 70-61 win over Triton College on December 11th after contributing 12 points and 10 rebounds.
In addition, Evans distributed four assists against Oakton Community College on November 15th and Joliet Junior College on December 9th to record her top collegiate totals.
In 16 appearances as a freshman, Evans tallied 4.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 0.6 assists per game. She scored 15 points to help lead Daley to a 76-70 triumph over Olive-Harvey College on January 11th. Two days later, Evans had a career-best five steals vs. Harper College.
Governors State, located in University Park, Ill., will be entering its second season of competition in 2015-16. An independent program during its inaugural campaign, the Jaguars joined the NAIA in April 2015.
