Take Action for Voting Rights!

The United States senate is poised to take an historic vote on voting rights. That we are still having this debate goes against everything we know to be good and right. Indeed these are defining moments and critical times when the voices and action of people of good will are needed now more than ever.

As people of faith, we believe in and affirm the right of every person to participate meaningfully in our democracy. The highest values of our faith tradition call us to work for this in as many ways as we can. It is, however, clear to us that this belief is not shared by all those who hold power in this country.

While people like Martin Luther King Jr. sacrificed their lives to expand democratic possibilities for all people, especially Black folks in this country, many would do everything they can to roll back the progress we have made. We must raise our voices and take action to demonstrate our commitment to these ideas and values. We who believe in freedom will not rest until it comes.

Join us in hastening the day of freedom!

Here are 3 things we can do:

1. Contact Illinois Senator’s Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth for their support of this important legislation. Here’s a directory of U.S. Senators with contact information.

2. Read and share this article. Follow CRS on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and like, comment on and share our posts regarding voting rights.

3. Sign on to our work in support of voting rights.  As informational resources are developed and opportunities to take action are created, we will let you know how you can get involved.

In Solidarity,
