On Saturday, February 25th, thirteen tweens from the Auburn Gresham community, piled into the community room at the Thurgood Marshall library and had a peer-led group discussion about the power of mainstream media, and the way the images they see- and the lyrics they hear, effect the way they feel... and could ultimately effect the future of their entire generation.
In the room with them? Two YOUmedia workers and two parents, whole all sat back and listened to the voices of the future. These thirteen students will go on to create their own media, positive media, digital artifacts that represent their culture, their opinions, and their visions of what the future should look like.
Since last November, over 150 local students have discovered a new space, a safe and free digital media learning center, called YOUmedia.
We welcome educators, community leaders, and most of all PARENTS to discover this innovative indoor playground, that will connect our students- the students that represent Auburn Gresham, to information, art, music, opportunities, mentors, and most of all, each other.
