1st Annual ICEBOX DERBY, Aug 23rd, Field Museum 2pm

#EMPOWER GIRLS TO GO FURTHER IN STEM

http://www.theiceboxderby.com/the-episodes#RaceDay

On August 23, the teams will gather at the starting line to see who can go the distance. With the help of ComEd mentors, the girls are taking recycled refrigerators and designing, building and powering them into electric icebox cars. Then the race is on. But they need your support, come join us to #Empower!

Join ComEd and special guests for a day filled with curious chemistry, recycled refrigerators zooming around on wheels and more proof that STEM is amazing. Opening ceremonies start at 2 pm.

THE COURSE

The two divisions will put their cars to the test in separate relay race heats in the east parking lot of The Field Museum. Between each of the five laps, the teams will have to complete a STEM Stop challenge and switch drivers before crossing the finish line. Then the first place team from each heat will compete in a final 3-lap race off to determine which team becomes the ultimate STEM Cup champion.

THE STEM CUP PRIZES

Building a car from scratch is no easy task, so everyone gets a college scholarship to start. Plus the STEM Cup champion will get an extra prize that’ll be revealed on race day.
