ComEd Wins Award for its Supplier Diversity Program

Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council names ComEd “Corporation of the Year”

CHICAGO (April 2, 2015) - The Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council (ChicagoMSDC) has named ComEd the “Corporation of the Year,” honoring the company for its continued efforts to develop and expand relationships with local minority and women-owned businesses. This highly coveted award is presented in recognition of a company’s leadership and outstanding accomplishments in the area of business diversity.

In 2014, ComEd spent $415 million with diverse suppliers, a $100 million increase over 2013. As part of the Smart Grid Law, ComEd also committed to increasing opportunities for diversity certified suppliers by 15 percent over a 10 year period, representing millions in additional diversity certified spending every year.

“ComEd is strong and steadfast in its commitment to supplier diversity, which is a key component of our supply chain strategy,” said Anne Pramaggiore, president and CEO, ComEd. “As a company located exclusively in northern Illinois, we have a special interest in our local businesses and stimulating economic development in our communities. Over the last two years we have increased ComEd’s annual supplier diversity spend by 30 percent and in 2014, 26 percent of our total supply came from diverse suppliers.”

ComEd’s continued growth in this area reinforces the company’s commitment to diversity and the economic vitality of the State of Illinois. ComEd is a founding member and active participant in numerous diverse supplier advocacy organizations including the Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council,  the Chicago United Five Forward Initiative, The Women’s Business Development Center, The Rainbow PUSH Trade Bureau, and the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, just to name a few.

“Leadership transforms communities, and ComEd consistently demonstrates great leadership in empowering diverse businesses,” said Shelia Morgan, president and CEO of the Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council. “This award reflects the strong, visionary leadership of ComEd’s CEO, Anne Pramaggiore. She and her leadership team are deeply committed to the principles of business diversity and inclusion. ComEd is well-deserving of this honor and we look forward to celebrating its success.”

This is the second consecutive year ComEd has been recognized by ChicagoMSDC. Last year the company received its Transformational Leadership Award. Additionally, ComEd’s sister utilities, BGE in Baltimore and PECO in Philadelphia, were also recognized earlier this year with the “Corporation of the Year Award” by the Capital Region Minority Supplier Diversity Council and Eastern Minority Supplier Diversity Council.
