Congratulations To Our Neighborhood Heroes!
Greetings! Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago (NHS) held its Annual Meeting and Neighborhood Leadership Awards program, "NHS @ 40: Deep Roots, Still Growing" on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the Bridgeport Art Center.
 
The event was attended by over 300 partners, volunteers, community leaders and neighborhood residents.  The evening's program showcased nine Neighborhood Heroes and celebrated NHS' accomplishments.

Lyric Opera of Chicago to Perform at Simeon High

The 19th annual "Opera in the Neighborhoods" tour will be at Simeon, 8141 S. Vincennes Ave., on Oct. 28 for two performances of "The Brothers Grimm. Third through sixth grades at nearby Auburn Gresham GOLD School, Westcott Elementary, 409 W. 80th St., will walk down the street to attend the performance!

HACIA SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION OPENS ENROLLMENT FOR FREE CONTRACTOR TRAINING PROGRAM FOR INDIVIDUALS IN CONTRACT AND CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRIES.

The Hispanic American Construction Industry Association (HACIA) Scholarship Foundation in conjunction with the Institute for Workforce Education at St. Augustine College announced at a Press Conference on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 the beginning of a 6-month free Contractor Training Program. The Program aims to instruct 200 small business contractors throughout the Chicagoland area and provide career advancement to minority individuals working in the construction and contracting industries.

This has been the rallying cry of Perspectives Charter School students’ “I Am For Peace” campaign, which culminates with the Perspectives “I Am For Peace” Premiere on October 24th, 5:30-9:30pm. On Friday, August 29th, 2014, a Graduation Celebration was held for the first lady of the Ambassadors for Christ World Outreach Ministries. Debra Stanford, now known as Dr. Debra Stanford after receiving her Ph.D., was celebrated by a host of friends and supporters at a banquet in the AFC Building at 79th & Ashland in the Auburn Gresham community.
