1st Annual ICEBOX DERBY, Aug 23rd, Field Museum 2pm

#EMPOWER GIRLS TO GO FURTHER IN STEM, On August 23, the teams will gather at the starting line to see who can go the distance. With the help of ComEd mentors, the girls are taking recycled refrigerators and designing, building and powering them into electric icebox cars. Then the race is on. But they need your support, come join us to #Empower!

All-Black Chicago Baseball Team First to Advance to Little League World Series in 31 Years

On the afternoon of Aug. 9, 2014, the Jackie Robinson West Little League made Chicago history after defeating New Albany, Ind. 12-7, in the Great Lakes Regional championship. A significant win in fact, because this makes them the first all-Black Chicago Little League team to advance to the Little League World Series in three decades. Stay Tuned: Little League World Series pool play, vs. Washington at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lamade Stadium, Williamsport, Pa. TV: ESPN.

Storycatchers Theatre Presents "Struggling In The Streets" The Play

In effort to turn their lives around, several young men and women joined Storycatchers Theatre, for a 16-week program to create a play of, "Struggling In The Streets."  A read aloud of the progress to date was held during July. Look to their upcoming final performance, to be held in September in Auburn Gresham. You won't want to miss Act. One!

Meet Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corporations MAPSCorps Civic Tech Team 2014. They are participating in a 6-week ummer intern program in conjunction with the University of Chicago, After School Matters and GADC. These are no ordinary "mappers. This year, five interns were selected to analyze five years of asset data to propose a civicly engaged project of the felt is most needed by the communities we serve. All thought they new almost instantly what they and other youth were willing to fight for, they rolled up their sleeves to tackle the BIG DATA package needed to validate their assumptions for their project proposal.
